Aligning with play
You may look at the picture above and not associate it with play. Somehow along the way, life as an adult became so serious.
I remember signing up for a gym membership to “Planet Fitness” when I used to live in the Bronx. Because that’s what adults do to stay fit. If we don’t workout, we’re doomed.
Or so I thought.
It turns out, I have a lot fun with movement. Different forms of movement — walking, jump rope, tennis, and yoga, for example. I look at movement as a form of play and that takes a lot of pressure off.
I had to get the terms “workout” or “go to the gym” out of my head. I replaced them with, “I’m going to have fun moving my body today.”
It makes it even more fun when you switch it up so it feels like some sort of novelty in your day. Walk one day. Jump rope another. You get the picture.
And then there is the book in the photo above — “Let’s Play Yoga!” Because after all, this is The Lived-In Library. We believe it’s not simply about words. It’s about action as well. It’s a way of life. A feeling. One that aligns with who you are and your growth as an individual. I found this book in the children’s section of our local library when my daughters were on winter break.
There are stories and teachings in this book. One that can inspire us at any age. One that reminds us to look within and not only at external factors. A lot of times, the answer is within. The one that aligns with who you are and your growth as an individual.
Once you look within, then fun, joy, and play become a lot simpler. That’s what I love about yoga, meditation, and prayer. They help me to focus from within. I choose to focus on joy and authenticity. In turn, the movement becomes a lot easier. It becomes fun. It becomes a form of play.
Until next time [God willing],
Sandy
