The Recipe of Life
We grow up thinking becoming a mom or dad is a destination. You get there and you’ve made it. You’ve checked off that aspect of life and return home with new life.
I get that.
But I’d have to say, when I became a mom 10 years ago, it became less of a destination and more of a travel experience. An adventure.
So here’s my travel journal as a mom. Encouraging the unspoken acceptance of things being out of our control at times. Like a recipe box with my daughter’s handwriting. This past week, she told me, “Look mom, I wrote my name.” While I had no intention of having her write her name on the box, there it was.
It holds recipes I collected from my mom before she passed away. There are no specific measurements because according to my mom you just need to “add a little bit of this and a little bit of that,” but I will treasure those recipes and my daughter’s handwriting forever. Three generations within this one box.
As I travel day-to-day as a mom, sometimes locally and sometimes to far-off adventures, and as I navigate the unknown and the unexpected, Kimberly Snyder’s “Hidden Power of the Five Hearts” has become a staple on my bookshelf.
It’s a beautiful reminder that home is where nervous systems can settle. And all of that starts with us, as individuals.
Where children feel emotionally safe enough to fully exhale.
