Architecture That Stays With You
Architecture can change you. New York’s skyscrapers, fountains, and gardens are iconic. Places like the New York Public Library, Central Park, and the Museum of the City of New York bring me a sense of calm. I even asked to visit Central Park and the museum for Mother’s Day last year.
Beyond the city, sites from around the world continue move me. The Pantheon’s quiet, ancient presence in Rome and the pyramids at Chichén Itzá in Mexico — one of the seven wonders of the world — are unforgettable. Most recently, visiting the Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, and the National Mall in Washington, DC reminded me how landscape architecture can shape feeling and memory.
I could go on and on, but architecture feels like a close friend—its presence makes you feel alive. The people who designed and built these places carried incredible vision and energy. I can’t fully explain the feeling, but I truly love it.
Two coffee-table books I always return to are listed in my library. I’ve linked the titles below.
What are you favorites sites to see around the world?
Until next time,
Sandy
